At the conclusion of the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 pageant, Rachel Peters, who represented the province of Camarines Sur, bested 39 other ladies for the top plum. She will represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant.
During the question and answer portion, Rachel was asked by European Union Ambassador to the Philippines Franz Jessen: “This week, the Philippines hosted the ASEAN (Assocation of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit. If you were invited to speak, what would have been your message to the leaders?”
Rachel answered: “I believe that one of the biggest problems in our country facing today is divisiveness – in politics, in religion and also in culture. And I believe that it’s something that is the same across the world.
“And so that is something I would want to address. I believe that people would learn to tolerate each other’s differences and respect each other’s opinions, then we will be a stronger nation going forward.”
Prior to joining Binibining Pilipinas 2017 and winning the Miss Universe Philippines 2017 title, Rachel joined Miss World Philippines 2014 and placed fourth runner-up.
Peters succeeds Maxine Medina, Miss Universe Philippines 2016, and will try to bring the fourth Miss Universe crown to the pageant crazy nation. The Miss Universe fever has intensified even further when the Philippines hosted the 66th Miss Universe pageant, its third hosting of the American-based beauty pageant.
Aside from winning Miss Universe Philippines, Rachel also brought home the Face of Binibini (Miss Photogenic), JAG Denim Queen and Best in Swimsuit.
Editor’s Note: Philippines Miss Universe delegate is a strong one and is poised to continue the pageant crazy nation’s successful run in the pageant. While Miss Philippines is already of high caliber, further training to polish her catwalk and communication skills will elevate her into a topnotch candidate who may bring the fourth Miss Universe win for the pageant powerhouse country.
