After much speculations, the 65th edition of the prestigious Miss Universe pageant has been announced by the Miss Universe Organization to national directors that it will be held in the Philippines, a country known to be passionate about beauty pageants and is now considered to be one of the world’s most successful nations in pageantry.

The reigning Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines, will crown her successor in an exciting show to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena, in Pasay City, Philippines. The same venue Miss Earth 2016 had which saw Miss Ecuador Katherine Espin crowned as the new environmental ambassador. The coronation night will be aired live by FOX network on January 29, 2017, Sunday evening in the US but will be shot before a live audience early morning of January 30 in the Philippines.
This will be the third time for the Philippines to host the prestigious pageant. The country hosted the Miss Universe 1974, the first Asian nation to do so. Spain’s Amparo Munoz was crowned Miss Universe 1974, the first woman from her country. Again, the country hosted the ladies of Miss Universe 1994 where India’s Sushmita Sen won her country’s first Miss Universe.
