The highly anticipated finale of Miss Earth Guam 2017, held on 21st June 2017, concluded with the crowning of Emma Mae Sheedy as the winner. Emma succeeds Miss Earth Guam 2016 Gloria Nelson, and will represent Guam at the Miss Earth 2017 pageant.
Emma Sheedy’s court includes Julia Naputi Rivera (Miss Fire Guam), Jenna Deena Panuelo (Miss Water Guam) and Jestyne Sablan (Miss Air Guam). Cirgida Reyes, Darlene Mae Gatchalian, Champain Aguon, Jaime Soriano, Tasi Marie Peredo and Tyler Torres, made it to the Top 10 finalists. Sheedy is a reporter for Guam Sports Network and is a member of Guam’s national track and field team. A series of Special Awards were also awarded under the following category –
Sablan (Best in Native wear)
Peredo (Best in Swimsuit)
Aguon (Miss Friendship) and
Julia RIvera (Miss Environmental Warriors)
Sheedy also won the second place in the native costume round, was awarded with the Miss Photogenic Special Award, and won the Best in Evening Gown award as well. Her environmental advocacy focused on the issue of illegal dumping. “One person’s trash is harmful not only to the environment but also the economy. Tourists come to this island expecting to see our beautiful island, and the trash lying around is not what they expect,” shared Sheedy. She wants to teach Guam about recycling and how little changes can make a difference as a whole.
The beauty queen has also been an active participant in sports. In fact, Sheedy has been one of the most dominant runners since her freshman year. She also played softball for the Panthers and was one of the league’s top runners in cross country.
Sheedy has always been passionate about everything she does, and writing and photography have been her major passion in life, other than sports. Her writing talent also extended from PDN’s The Vibe.
